Sometimes, a little less pressure is exactly what a child needs to find their confidence.

Heather, a reading teacher, along with Dolly and Huck, are a certified therapy team through Dogs With a Purpose. Together, their mission is simple: spread joy, create connection, and help children feel more comfortable behind a book.

Creating Bookworms works with schools and libraries to give children opportunities to practice their reading skills in a calm, encouraging environment—with Dolly right by their side.

Why read with a therapy dog?

Reading can feel intimidating for a child who is still developing their skills. Worrying about making a mistake, sounding out an unfamiliar word, or reading in front of someone else can add even more pressure.

That’s where Dolly comes in.

Her calm, comforting presence helps create an environment where children can slow down, relax, and simply read. With less pressure and plenty of encouragement, kids have an opportunity to practice the skills they already know while building confidence along the way.

No judgment. No pressure. Just a child, a book, and a very good reading buddy.

One-on-One Reading Sessions

A little extra practice—with a lot of encouragement.

Parents can sign their child up for one-on-one reading time with Heather, Dolly & Huck.

These sessions give your child dedicated time to practice reading in a supportive, low-pressure environment designed to help them feel more comfortable and confident with a book in their hands.

Whether your child is a hesitant reader, needs a little extra practice, or simply LOVES the idea of reading to a furry friend, Creating Bookworms gives them a special place to learn and grow.

Schools & Libraries
